Al-Afuww — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Pardoner, who erases sins and does not punish for them.

In the Quran

  1. 99فَأُوْلَـٰۤئِكَ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَعۡفُوَ عَنۡهُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَفُوًّا غَفُورࣰا

    For those it is expected that Allah will pardon them, and Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.

Surah An-Nisaa · 4:99

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
