Meaning

The All-Knowing, whose knowledge encompasses everything.

In the Quran

  1. 29هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعࣰا ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰۤ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَسَوَّىٰهُنَّ سَبۡعَ سَمَـٰوَ ٰتࣲۚ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِيمࣱ

    It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things.

Surah Al-Baqara · 2:29

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
