Al-Ghani — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Self-Sufficient, who has no need of anything.

In the Quran

  1. 263قَوۡلࣱ مَّعۡرُوفࣱ وَمَغۡفِرَةٌ خَيۡرࣱ مِّن صَدَقَةࣲ يَتۡبَعُهَاۤ أَذࣰىۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِیٌّ حَلِيمࣱ

    Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing.

Surah Al-Baqara · 2:263

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
