Al-Wadud — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Most Loving, who loves His righteous servants and is loved by them.

In the Quran

  1. 90وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ تُوبُوۤاْ إِلَيۡهِۚ إِنَّ رَبِّی رَحِيمࣱ وَدُودࣱ

    And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is Merciful and Affectionate."

Surah Hud · 11:90

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
