Al-Wahid — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The One, unique and without partner in His essence and attributes.

In the Quran

  1. 163وَإِلَـٰهُكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱۖ لَّاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

    And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Surah Al-Baqara · 2:163

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
