Istighfar and repentance in Arabic with the translation of the meaning, from the Quran and the authentic Sunnah.

  1. وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَسْتَغفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةٍ

    The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times in a day.

  2. يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ فِي الْيَوْمِ إِلَيْهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ

    And he (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: O people, repent to Allah, for I repent to Him a hundred times a day.

  3. مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظيمَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ القَيّوُمُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ، غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ

    And he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever says: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Supreme, besides Whom there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence, and I repent to Him,' Allah will forgive him, even if he has fled from the battlefield.

  4. أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ مِنَ الْعَبْدِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرِ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِمَّنْ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ فَكُنْ

    And he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: The closest the Lord is to a servant is in the latter part of the night, so if you are able to be among those who remember Allah at that hour, then be so.

  5. أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ

    And he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: The closest a servant is to his Lord is while he is prostrating, so supplicate abundantly.

  6. إِنَّهُ لَيُغَانُ عَلَى قَلْبِي وَإِنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ

    And he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Verily, a shadow comes over my heart, and indeed, I seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred times a day.
