Al-Barr — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Source of Goodness, who is kind and benevolent to His servants.

In the Quran

  1. 28إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبۡلُ نَدۡعُوهُۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

    Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."

Surah At-Tur · 52:28

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
