Al-Hamid — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Praiseworthy, worthy of all praise in every state.

In the Quran

  1. 8وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِن تَكۡفُرُوۤاْ أَنتُمۡ وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعࣰا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِیٌّ حَمِيدٌ

    And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

Surah Ibrahim · 14:8

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
