Al-Muqit — Meaning of Allah's Name

Meaning

The Sustainer, who provides nourishment and has power over all things.

In the Quran

  1. 85مَّن يَشۡفَعۡ شَفَـٰعَةً حَسَنَةࣰ يَكُن لَّهُۥ نَصِيبࣱ مِّنۡهَاۖ وَمَن يَشۡفَعۡ شَفَـٰعَةࣰ سَيِّئَةࣰ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كِفۡلࣱ مِّنۡهَاۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مُّقِيتࣰا

    Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a reward therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a burden therefrom. And ever is Allah, over all things, a Keeper.

Surah An-Nisaa · 4:85

Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Quran 7:180).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). This does not mean His names are limited to ninety-nine.
